Minjoon Choi

About Me

Greetings! I’m a Computer Science Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland, College Park, advised by Prof. Mohit Iyyer. Prior to that, I did my undergrad at Seoul National University.

I work on NLP problems, and my research focuses on:

• Long-form Generation Evaluation: Developing benchmarks/frameworks to assess extended LLM outputs
• AI Text Detection: Detecting AI-authored text in open-ended generation, focusing on the origin of ideas
• Factuality & Reliability of LLMs: Mitigating hallucinations and understanding model knowledge boundaries (“knowing what models know”)

Previously, I have worked for 3 years as a software engineer at Dunamu, a Fin-Tech corporation that developed Korea’s #1 digital asset exchange Upbit.

[Aug. 2026] I started my Ph.D. at UMD CS!
[Feb. 2026] I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my B.S. from SNU.
[Jun. 2025] Started to work with Prof. Lucy Lu Wang at the UW iSchool. Grateful for this opportunity!
[Mar. 2025] I am attending the University of Washington as an exchange student! I am also thankful to receive the Korea & USA Advanced Field Student Exchange Scholarship.
[Jun. 2024] Started working as a research intern at SNU Intelligent Data Systems Lab.
[Mar. 2021] Started working for Dunamu (Stockplus Backend Team) as a full-time SWE.
